I was having a conversation with a friend, about the various effects that different types of Kryptonite have. Another friend sitting with us, was listening in on our conversation and thought that we were making up all of this mythology, so I decided to write some canon law on kryptonite.
As most of us know, Superman and all Kryptonian's main weakness comes from the mineral ore; Kryptonite. These deadly crystal shards came about Earth, when the planet Krypton exploded and embedded within meteor rocks, followed the same trajectory as Kal-El's space pod to Earth. Propelled by the blast, many of the crystal fragments encountered various phenomena, before reaching our part of the universe and thus their properties were transformed, causing different reactions when exposed. When any Kryptonian and in some cases humans, animals and plant life encounter kryptonite, you can be sure that there is going to be an event filled day.
      | Green Kryptonite (GK) The most common form of kryptonite, its effects are immediate upon exposure. GK causes immediate weakness and severe pain and depending on the purity and proximity, it will dampen to arrest all super abilities - fast. You will see the effects via the bulging of veins bulging out of the skin and prolonged exposure will lead to death! Red Kryptonite (RK) RK has many unpredictable effects, the most common seen on screen; is a loss of inhibitions. A Kryptonian simply ceases to care about the consequences of their actions. Unlike GK, exposure does not have to be constant and once exposed, the effects can last up to 72 hours. RK has created some very radical physical and mental transformations in Kryptonians. White Kryptonite (WK) WK kills all animals and plant life. WK is even deadly to bacteria, virus' and basically any non-humanoid, living organism. WK primarily gets used as a medicine, when various diseases or enemies present themselves as diseases WK is a good cure. A Kryptonian exposed to a virus, such as Virus X - a deadly leprosy strain, can be cured, by being exposed to WK, with no side effects to the host. Black Kryptonite (BK) BK effects both Kryptonians and humans. It has the power to split people into 2 distinct personalities and I don't mean in the form of schizophrenia. I mean 2 actual physical forms, of the same person existing, at the same time. However, for it to work on humans, BK has to be freshly heated. Blue Kryptonite (BK) BK is very straightforward in its effects. It strips Kryptonians of their powers, without harming them. In reverse...well almost, exposure to humans and other organic life forms (even water) increase in their health and longevity. Long term exposure for a human being, actually gives them perfect health, though they will not suddenly segue into having any super powers or extra abilities. Gold Kryptonite (GK) This form of of kryptonite is probably the most dangerous, yes even more so than GK. Earth's yellow sun is the reason that Kryptonians have powers, GK stops Kryptonians from being able to absorb that essential, potent solar energy, damaging their cells in the process. Due to that, it can leave wounds unable to heal properly and therefore scars. When GK makes physical contact, it can permanently remove powers! |
