Being an avid reader of Impact Magazine during most of the 90s, I clearly remember reading that Jean Claude Van Damme had claimed to have been in the original Predator movie. Many people of course jumped up to say his claim was a lie (like his tournament wins) but as it stands, critics have been proved wrong for a second time as Jean Claude Van Damme was indeed the original hunter taking on Arnie and co.
The Original Rumour
In regards to the first part of the rumour, what seems more likely is that with the invitation of Stan Winston creating a new a suit, for a much bigger person, Van Damme's 5ft 10" frame was not sufficient enough. And For the short time he was on this Earth, Kevin Peter Hall played the Predator in both the first and sequel, standing at a massive 7ft 2".
The Original Rumour
- Due to the continuing fainting spells, brought about by the extreme Mexican heat, Van Damme was fired and replaced by Kevin Peter Hall.
- The last part of the rumour was that due to starring in a film with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Van Damme caught the attention of a certain producer, as any association with Schwarzenegger in Hollywood, carried a lot of weight back then. Apparently this is how he got the role of Frank Dux in Bloodsport.
