1989, And It was a big deal at the time...the new movie certificate, that filled in the celluloid ambiguity, between a film that was too adult to be a PG, yet to tame to earn a 15 certificate.
I remember being very excited in going to watch Tim Burton's / Michael Keaton's Batman, the first ever 12 certificate film. The amount of media coverage that the film was getting pre-release, was immense and the hype surrounding this new certification rating just amped up the wannasee factor. As a side note, I also remember License To Kill, becoming the first and only Bond film, to date, receiving a 15 certificate, so something in cinema must have been changing. From inception, the 12 certification was the genuine article, as you really could notice a difference in a said film's tone, violence, language and themes.
