audience-splitting, road movie, come horror flick; From Dusk Til Dawn. Having very much enjoyed the first one with George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino, I was very disappointed by the 2 straight-to-DVD sequels which aren't even worth talking about.
However in the case of the TV show, I can safely report that 2 episodes into the 10 part affair, I'm in for the long haul. What Rodriguez has done in the TV adaptation is expand the mythology of every character and has alternatively given Richie's role (previously owned by Tarantino) now played by Zane Holtz (the heart of the show) a very good reason for his psychotic disposition.
"Yet all the new story elements shown alongside what we already know from the film, make all the known factors slightly different and this saves us from simply watching a small screen rehashing."
Each character has their own story and those stories are told in a combination of present time, but are also linked to flashbacks. The flashbacks are then brought into the current narrative to interlink with the overall story. The cast has been well chosen and the fleshing out of every character offers a deeper understanding and intrigue to the whole plot. From Dusk Til Dawn therefore becomes just as much a tale about people, as it is about an ancient mystical legend.
2 episodes in and I've only just seen the Gecko brothers escape the store featured right at the beginning of the feature film, so you get an understanding of the detail that is being deployed per episode. Yet all the new story elements shown alongside what we already know from the film, make all the known factors slightly different and this saves us from simply watching a small screen rehashing. I also believe that the best is yet to come in the back story regarding the Titty Twister High Priestess. We have already had a tiny glimpse of her origin story and I think in the full delivery of that tale, we are going to be wowed...I hope.
