Avengers: Endgame Review

And So That Time Has Come Upon Us. The 22nd Marvel Cinematic Universe film in the form of Avengers: Endgame has arrived and we must ask the most essential question. In a war that has already been fought and lost, can one more battle really reset the universe from the deadliest clicking of fingers ever?

WE HAVE THE TECNOLOGY
It has been 11 years since we first saw Nick Fury's recruitment drive of avenging sentinels, in order that if the Earth face an impending global dilemma, we would have the resources to protect ourselves. And with utter and total cataclysmic destruction being a regular feature in many-a-comic-book tale, the palatability of the biggest and boldest ideas for celluloid could only be brought to us by the advancement of CGI technology. The imagery that has existed in the panels of graphic novels for decades finally became available for our generation and though a standard has always been set and then reset throughout the history of cinema; for example Christopher Reeves' first Superman (1978), Michael Keaton's first Batman (1989) and of course Robert Downey Jr's first Iron Man (2008), each new MCU feature became more confident in its storytelling as well as its fighting feats. Ant-Man (2015) and Dr Strange (2016) in particular really pushed the 'reality' envelope, manipulating not just the characters but the environments they occupied, to a whole new level. Everyone is charged up for Avengers: Endgame, which just could be, the greatest superhero movie ever committed to celluloid...we hope.

THE QUICK RECAP
At the end of Infinity War, we were left with a tired but triumphant Thanos. He had accumulated all the infinity stones for his gauntlet, acquired the power of the cosmos, clicked his fingers and rid the universe of half of its occupants. In a last ditch effort to save the day, Nick Fury hailed Captain Marvel and she came. But at this point, is there anything for her left to do? In settling down to watch Endgame what we mustn't forget is; Dr Strange's look into 14,000,605 outcomes and Scott Lang's entrapment in the quantum realm back in Ant-Man & The Wasp - possibly outside the Infinity Stone's power. This was my mind's most hopeful recollections at the end of Infinity War.

THE FILM
As I get older, I admire restraint. Restraint, when you have the power of the CGI cosmos to throw around - but don't, shows mature filmmaking and that's what will hit you first with Endgame. The fallout of the events in Infinity War are real and felt and so for much of the first act of the film, the Russo brothers have constructed a story that holds back on the flash and bravado to let the truth of the events unfold. Bobby Ewing will not be making an appearance in the shower to let you know that it was all a bad dream, oh no folks, it's a bad reality and your stuck with it. Dedicated viewers of the MCU, including all those who were patient enough to watch all the post-end credits as cinema ushers came in and made you feel guilty for staying will be rewarded. In fact, all of the initiated that have been collecting the full interwoven tapestry of the MCU will be ecstatic to see what is about to unfold in this love letter to you. If you are expecting a facsimile of Infinity War, you're in for a big surprise - same coin different sides...entirely. I read somewhere, that someone said "That if Infinity War is the braun, then Endgame is the mind". I would like to add to that and say; that Endgame is the heart and mind relaying back and forth with each other and it's about to get real emotional. Oh, in case I wasn't being very clear, Avengers: Endgame is a good movie with a last battle of triple epic proportions. I would like to salute the unsung heroes in the CGI and technical departments - as the vision only exists in the mode that we have been waiting for because of them. They made our dreams a reality and some of us have been waiting a mighty long time.
