Snog, Marry Or Avoid? - AVOID! AVOID!!
The first saga in the Mortal Instruments series 'City of Bones' is a coherent mess, coherent in that the film’s plot actually makes sense, but the overall feeling of the movie is that its tone and themes are not unified. The film plays a continuous note of flat and never really seems to get its engine revved and running.
Mortal Instruments even fails to be so bad that it's good and has no cult or camp potency to at least be an enjoyable B-movie or guilty pleasure - it takes itself way too seriously for that.
One might watch it and think it should have just remained a book, but I think with a completely different artistic direction, this film could have matched the likes of Beautiful Creatures...and will someone please explain to me why everybody in the movie is so damn skinny!
