Ray Breslin (played by Sylvester Stallone) breaks out of prisons for a living. He is hired by government authorities to test the integrity of any housing facility and for Breslin, 8 years in, he has never failed to break out. However on his latest assignment sponsored by the CIA, Breslin must face his toughest challenge when he is hired, then double-crossed to escape a prison that has incorporated every single recommendation on security issues that he has suggested. That prison in particular has been chosen for him, as his betrayers want him to stay inside...forever.
Escape Plan is not an action movie per se, it's more of a fascinating puzzle with bits of action here and there. But the 2 leads (Sly and Arnie) have so much charisma together that you can forgive the slightly sagging second act. It's hard to not venture into prison movie cliche, I mean there is only so much originality you can bring to this type of movie, but thankfully in focusing on the puzzle element of escape, this is more Prison Break than Lock Up.
My one gripe is that the villains didn't get punished enough especially the shadow villain...
