Ground Hog Day just went Source Code...all within a galactic war.
A media savvy, advertising salesman, Major William Cage, is drafted into the army to spin propaganda, where his main task is to to encourage people to fight in the war. Where as his own army rank of Major has not been earned by being in any conflict, he feels no real connection to the realities of war and the prospect of advertising posts that could potentially lead to a person's demise. Circumstances and possibly karma find a way, that Cage ends up being deployed (very reluctantly) into the warzone that he is so happy to advertise. And through his lack of experience, not having performed on tour of duty, Cage is killed fairly quickly, only to awaken alive, but back in the past. Realising that something isn't right he begins to investigate this repetitive time travelling anomaly and uncovers some truths about the aliens which transforms him from an unwilling participant, to wanting to take out all the sons of
b-yatches by himself.

EOT is enjoyable enough, the replayed sequences of repeated time are carefully considered and revised well. No frustration will come about from re-watching the same thing happen for the umpteenth time - I promise. The plot is not particularly complex, which is fine, though the artistic direction seems to borrow a lot from other movies. The aliens look like a cross between The Matrix's Sentinels and the transformed Eric Balfour in Skyline, the exo-suits remind me of Ripley's cargo loader from Aliens and the gunships remind me of the Terminator's hunter-killer ships.
Even though I liked the movie, I felt that I had seen it all before, maybe I'm in a time loop and dare I say it - I had seen it before!
The reason I score the film lower than 8, is because of the ending. The final reset in the movie did not make any sense and that made the tremendous effort of the character seem pointless. Even a film rookie, not used to time anomalies in narrative would be like "hold on just a darn second - that couldn't happen".
EOT is a cinematic film, worthy of a watch, but like Oblivion the picture was one exposition short of being satisfying and not enough detail was given about the aliens.
