Good Grief! Watching Afua Hirsch debating...no sorry, teaching people what racism is on the Sky News talk show, was both exhausting and demoralising to watch. Simultaneously, watching a group of people trying to defend Danny Baker (who represents their own racist ideas) from a number of angles was pathetic and the most infuriating angle of all, was on the notion of intention... So is this the new go-to now? Is the new defence strategy to excuse why somebody's racism - wasn't racist, just one excuse away in the form of wilful intention. In other words; did the person causing offence mean to offend you? Well, unfortunately for those who are flocking to this banner of 'I mean to take no accountability upon myself' your new strategy will lead you to a much bigger problem. If you do decide to stand by this flimsy rhetoric and if you propagate racism, especially as casual humour and you don't even know that you are doing it, then that simply confirms that racism is so interwoven in your society, that you are unaware of its existence IN YOU. Ultimately, you are a programmed robot who doesn't even know that they are a robot. You are unconsciously biased and all the facets that have gone into creating your ideology have been normalised to such a degree, that your programming to commit to certain beliefs and more importantly act upon them is your overriding software. As for racism's defenders, they sleep in exactly the same bed as this bunch arguing for Danny. They too think they are being objective, intellectual and independent in their thought, but they are stuttering enablers, automatically defending the assailant because they immediately understood his message and it didn't appall them. Oh don't think that they didn't find the racist image amusing or funny, they found it funny...until they were told that they weren't supposed to. Up close and personal or from the comfort of your home, it is time to realize that many people do not want to change their attitude because just like Danny Baker, they don't think they are doing anything wrong and unfortunately, these very same people have never weighed or studied the consequences of black people being compared to animals. If they had, they would have reached the most devastating outcome of animal comparison, that helped lead to that thing called "slavery", I'm sure you've heard of it. You know, where for the sake of capitalism a decision and legal alteration of black people's human status was changed in order to classify them as 'sub-human' - something like a human being, but also something like an animal too. This then allowed so-called civilized people to strip them of any rights that 'real' (white) people had and go about stealing their lands, killing, kidnapping, exporting, raping and torturing them because they were not human and therefore not bound to the normal laws of men. I sincerely hope that this is not news to you...well where do you think the comparison to animals came from? It is a form of control-propaganda, social subjugation and humiliation.
