In all societies, certain expectations are formed and carried around in regards to gender norms and the behaviour we associate with each polarity. And despite the new form of wokeism doing its best with its societal call to action; which is to accept more fluid and varied designations per person, we all, well most of us, in the end revert to falling into boring, archetypal labelling. And it's here, in Strange Darling, that this programmed way of thinking will be weaponised against our default perceptions.
Every time we go to give the benefit of the doubt to the 'weak' woman, who appears to be super vulnerable, sane and virtuous, automatically believing her above the logic and reason that could be jumping up and down right in front our face, the hidden knife (emotional instability) will come out unexpectedly and be pushed into us before we even have a clue as to what is really going on. Perhaps 'The Lady' (that's how the killer is referred to) represents the most radical version of feminism, the hardcore branch, that sees all non-compliant, non-believers of the cause as devils (how she sees most people) - and therefore the enemy. I mean she didn't kill Gale the female cop because she was on her side right from the get-go, but she does kill everybody, including other women who don't side with her or that turn against her. In real life, Feminism has proven, that at a drop of a coin, it can eat itself.
The political movement or I should say The Lady's movement, seemingly allows everything to be permissible, all of the time, to the absolute max and nothing can stop her from moving forward, either through her own power or with societies assistance. She also has the benefit of changing her mind about choices in baffling ways (see the attempted sex scene) and the arresting or even suspicion of labelling the inconsiderate bad (female) behaviour as such, will have those who expose their contrary opinion, as oppressors and sexist.
A woman has the right to her choices and to change her mind. Well, that is fine, but how well is extremism working out in reality? If a woman wants to sleep with 100 men back-to-back, it's her body and therefore her right to do so and coming online to declare this is seemingly nothing...to some. If a woman wants to have over 50 medical procedures to change her body, it's her body and 100% permissible. But what is the psychological toll? In fact, if we are being honest; to want or need those things in the first place means that the person has already been psychologically compromised and we as a society are supposed to help that vulnerability not fuel it and then provide encouragement.
The Lady is stopped by a representative of what I would consider the 'old guard' a grandmother matriarch type that use to impart wisdom to their grandchildren before bad things happened, but unfortunately in this instance, the advice has to be mortally savage to end the reign of unbridled rage.
